Karen designed and managed the $34 million renovation and ADA upgrade of NYCTA East 180th Street Station. In addition to a full station refurbishment and addition of ADA elevators, the project includes the rehabilitation of the administration building and exterior plaza and grounds, both listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The former Headhouse for New York, Boston and West Chester railroad was designed by Grand Central Terminal architects, the team of Fellheimer, Reed and Stern, with Warren and Westmore in 1912.

The Italianate Villa and Plaza is now used as administration offices for NYCTA. The scope of work included full architectural services, design, construction documentation and construction administration for the Headhouse exterior including replacement of the existing Crittal windows in-kind from Crittal USA, new skylights and refurbished lintels and balustrades. The station interior renovation included the addition of 2 ADA glass elevators, new floor and wall ceramic tile, lighting and public art coordinated through the Arts for Transit program.
